The first steps have been taken to rescue her...

Ok, so I know this is far from an original posting, and I am probably the billionth person to ask.. but here goes. Oakley and I have agreed to add to our pack and rescue a staffie.

Following the recent Panorama show, it broke my heart and after a great deal of soul searching and intermittant searches for "the one" we have found her and we go to collect her on Thursday.... She is a 7 month old all black wee thing, with a skin complaint. Her current owners are no longer able to afford her medical care and this is where Oaks, myself and my fabulous vet step in.

I know I have a battle ahead of me in terms of specifically identifying the route cause of the skin ailment along with the negativity that surrounds the breed, but I as fellow dog lover want to do my part, roll my sleaves up and face the challenge head on.

My quandry, I hear your ask is in the name, I want to call her something original, but gentle, without sounding like a hippy!!! Her current name is Star, sorry but hate this!!! I have no intention of doing anything but nurse her back to 100% health and socialise her fully to do the best by her, but the name is a REAL sticking point... any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I strongly suspect the current diet is doing her minimal good, and this will be the first step we take to ween her off a certain "top breeders recommend it" brand. Skin scrapes have been taken and my vet is already collecting medical notes from her curent vets to see what has/has not been done to date.

I will also be having her neutered ASAP too, think there are enoug staffies out there in need of homes already, and find the current wave of irresponsible breeding by people looking to make a fast buck sickening... rant over, sorry folks!!!

Back to basics tho, any advances on star?

Many thanks in advance

OM

Since her name is/was Star, how about sticking with the 'theme' & naming her after something spacey, eg: 'Playadees'(sp?, the constilation Seven Sisters) Or: 'Zenith' (the height of a metiorite shower) 'Flair' (as in Solar Flair)

Hi Shani & Mese, thank you for your responses, my mum suggested Slate, as she is black and it came up on one of those "dog name sites" !!!

I sort of like the name grace, but i'm liking the concept of spacey names... and rose is a contender also.. thank you

Thinking of spacey names - Comet or Cosmo?
It is brilliant that you are taking on this dog!

I'd probably try to come with a two syllable name that rhymes with Star - all I can think of so far is Quasar, which does though go along with Shani's idea of keeping to a theme.
