How to find a good breeder.

Hi, we are thinking of getting a Bullmastiff in about a year after Ayla has been spayed and hopefully calmed down a little. What is the best place to look for a good Bullmastiff breeder? Ive seen lots on the internet and have contacted a couple to ask if we can visit them and meet the dogs and talk about the breed, do you think a breeder would mind doind this?

When we get the puppy I will book two or three weeks off work then my partner will book 2 or 3 weeks off straight after so we have time to housetrain and get pup into a routine. We then have a friend who would be able to come round when our shifts clash ( we normally work different shifts though, its just normally once a week on average)

We want to make sure the dog comes from good lines and from somewhere where the parents have good temperments.

Any advice on how to go about getting a good breeder?

Becky

You need to do what you are doing, if the breeder is unwilling to oblige you then don't go there.

Health testing certificates need to be seen, check it is the right dog and don't tell them you want to see them until you arrive.

Look at temperament of both parents,

Try not to fall for any pups (or older dogs) that might not be exactly what you want ---that is the hard part.

There is usually a breed secretary, you can get the number from the KC or the internet maybe, they will put you in touch with any expected litters.

Good luck

If you can get to Crufts it will be a good start, you can do DD and go tot he Bullmastiff stand..its amazing what info you can get out of the people there.

Also sit a watch round the ring, and talk to people..again you will pick up good or bad vibes.

Dont forget the breed clubs , best place to start.
