Omg, i forgot to tell you this last week

Well the other week i was on the field by myself with Pepsi. She was running around like a loon as per usual. Then i seen a woman come over with her collie. So we started chatting, she said that she has seen me every day for almost a year and has been dying to come over and see me and Pepsi. She said that she loves watching me train her on the field and thinks im brave that i do it even when peple are walking around .

We got onto behaviour and she said that Pepsi was so well behaved. Then she started talking about her dog who is about 3-4 years old, constantly chewing things in the house, biting the walls, digging the garden, chewing wooden table legs and so on. I asked her if she took her to training classes or anything like that, she said no.

Anyways as we were chatting she looked down at Pepsi and said 'oh she musnt need much excercise as she is a small dog' , i told her that with her being a gundog she has lots of energy and goes out for about 2-3hrs a day. When i asked her about her collie and where she walked her, as ive never seen her on the field before, she said that she gives her 10 min in the morning and 10 min at night . I think my jaw dropped, and she totally noticed. I couldnt believe what i was hearing. No wonder she is having so many problems in the house, the dog is bored and doesnt get enough excercise. Well i had to pipe up and tell her, she just couldnt understand that she needed that much walking. As i told her that the collie was prob the most intelligent dog there is, they need lots of stimulation and love to run.

So she said that she would love to come on the field with the rest of the crew and give her a bit of a walk. But needles to say she still hasnt been and its been over a week now. I do actually feel sorry for the dog.

And i asked her why she picked a collie, her ansa ' she was cute ' didnt look into getting a dog or anything. Never had one in her life and doesnt even work so she could be out with her all the time

damn the cuteness of puppies!!!! Sadly not unusual. People buy dogs based on looks alone and don't take temperament and exercise (and grooming) requirements onto consideration. Happens all the time!

Poor dog, Seems like she got her for all the wrong reasons! How did you get in to dog training classes? Or is it with a group of friends? I get my puppy in 7 weeks and want to get as prepared as possible for when we can start classes just not sure where to start?

ask around for recommendations and google classes in your area. look for qualified trainers though, as there are a lot of numpties setting up as dog trainers at the mo. Look on the apdt website for a list of professionals.

Yeah its such a shame, She just doesnt understand the dogs needs but apart from that i think she does treat it very well.

Sarah0126 - Training classes are great for ya dog. Sometimes they seem like your not learning anything or that they may be a bit boring but if i were you id do until at least the bronze class. This way your dog gets to know how to socialise off the lead in puppy class, and on the lead in bronze classes, as theres no play time in the bronze ones
