Poor gypsy

We took my daughters just 2yr old guinea pig Gypsy to the vets this evening as we knew she had cataracts but she had also been losing weight despite eating well.
The vet confirmed cataracts but also found an ovarian cyst. He feels its this and her hormones causing the drastic weight loss.
He has recomended that we have her spayed. For a guinea pig this really is a big operation and she may not survive it or it may not be the cause of her problems, but without trying the poor girl will continue to lose lots of weight till she gets too weak to carry on.
The cataracts don't give her a problem at all and she still comes running over for a fuss as soon as we go in the room and finds her food and way round etc. She seems the same as her mate Tallulah who is fully sighted.
Anyway we have come home to have a good think about it, so please send any positive vibbes you can muster that she can get through this and go on to live a long and healthy life.
