Zak has a sore bottom :o(

noticed yesterday he was licking at his rear end more than usual, today I managed to get a peek and its quite red and looks nasty. I have him booked in at the vets at 2.30 today. He is quite unsettled and Zeita is paying his back end quite a bit of attention too so there is def something going on. Only prob is Zak hates being examined, he has just gone for me whilst having a look so am not looking forward to the vets. Ash is coming too as it will take 2 of us to hold him .Just hope he doesn't need cream as there is no way he will let us near. He growls at me now every time I look at him so it must be bothering him and he hates being man handled especially round his tail area.

Any ideas?

They were both wormed about 6 weeks ago

Doug my PRT had the exact same problem a week ago, even though he seemed perfectly well in himself and was eating and pooing as normal. He had an abcess in his anal glands The vet emptied the glands and prescribed a 5 day course of ABs. Doug was better almost immediately after the emptying procedure, and although he was prescribed Metacam for the pain, he showed no signs at all of distress so I did'nt use it.
Fingers crossed all goes well at the vets today and Zacs discomfort is soon eased.

I wonder if his anal glands are full and need emptying? Is there a fishy smell to his back end?

I hope the vet visit goes ok.
