Any recommendations for collars that aid well being?

Hi,

I have tried many different dog collars from cheap to expensive.

Can anyone recommend collars that don't mat the fur and also are pleasant to look at and durable.

For 2 Labradors.

Also what is reasonable to spend on a collar and how often do you change them?

thanks,

Paul

I'm not quite sure on what you mean by "collars that aid well being", but...

I like Dublin Dog Collars:

That is their US based website, but plenty of UK online retailers sell them too. They are waterproof (great for Labs that like to get mucky), hard wearing and look pretty good too. Because of their material, they don't smell and are easily cleaned.

I also like Dog Games Fleece lined collars:

Lightweight and therefore very comfortable for the dog to wear, easy to wash, good price, look nice.

If you want a collar the dog can wear all the time without it leaving fur marks on the neck, look at rolled leather collars or any leather collar for that matter. You defiantly get what you pay for when it comes to leather products.

I use nylon or webbing ones that go in the washing machine regularly. Provided they are fitted correctly they shouldn`t damage the fur.

I'm guessing he means the 'collar ring' you get if you leave certain collars on a dog all the time.

I've never left a collar on any dog I've when I am not out walking it. I can't see the point.

I don`t leave a collar on in the house because I`ve had a dog caught in another`s collar while jumping about when getting ready to go out. Imagine if I`d not been there - there would have been a terrible fight.

If your dogs walk nicely and don't pull etc, then an Ezydog collar is great. They do extra wide ones, in quite a few collars, and they are very strong collars which also look smart. My dog has one in black.

I've also ordered an Orvis collar; it has my phone numbers embroidered nice and clearly on it. (Orvis UK).

If your Labs pull on the lead, then I recommend a half check collar; I use one for my Lab and it really helps.

My dog will wear the Orvis collar at all times *except* when he is at home alone; I never put a collar on if he's going to be by himself.
