Hi Steve i asked me OH about your click problem and he recons that if it still works and you have just lost the sound of it clicking. Then it's just a hardware problem not sound as it does not come out of your speakers but comes from the mouse or pad that your using.
So to sort it out you will have to get the mouse or pad replaced as you have been clicking to much (to much dogwebbing if you can do that)

Hows the right click have you still got it on that click sound?

If you have then it's just the left click that needs sorting and a hardware problem and using the on screen keyboard would not help either cause you are using the same pad for clicking because as i have said your problem is hardware not audio.

Sometimes the scroll button on my laptop fails and a system restore to when it was working usually fixes it.

Might work with the clicks
