Finally got to see a doctor this week

ive had vertigo started just b4 christmas said to the doctor and all he did was take my BP
so i think ok ill be ok. well it was getting worse. almost fell down the escalators in town. luckily charlie was with me. so i go back to the doctor. after sitting in the waiting room for an hour he checks me over and gives me some meds. by the time i get out its late and ive missed the last bus home.luckily charlie picks me up.
these meds he gave me make me feel worse. i feel sick.cant get out of bed ect.
so i eventually i manage to get an appoinment with the doc.and i sit there for over 2 HOURS hes a lovely doctor but his time keeping sucks bigtime. but after all that ive got to see a ENT specialist and have a scan and possibly a mri brain scan (if they can find it lol) just dont fancy going in 1 of them tube things. i get panic attacks with crowds or small spaces.
but at least i am getting something done. but just hope it dont carry on for too long. i hate this swimmy feeling. cant look up. wobbly like a drunk.
im trying to get to see a new doctor closer. my doc does locum work for them. so hes going to put in a word for me.

Oh poor you it is horrible feeling so giddy. Did he look in your ears as sometimes it can be a problem in the ear canal and it affects the balance.

Glad the doctor is finally sending you for a scan *Hugs*

Hope they can give you something that doesn't make you feel worse, but makes you feel better x

Hi,

Sorry I can't say anything to make you feel better right now but I do know that some MRI scanners are designed in such a way that only the body part to be scanned has to enter the scanner area. So with any luck, only your head will actually be inside the scanner bit (the tube bit). it will be lit up for you (although I've always find it helps to close my eyes). The rest of your body (shoulders down to feet) may be able to remain outside the scanner.

It may be worth calling the hospital one you have your appointment for the scan and asking them what sort of scanner they have.

The only reason I know this is that firstly I've had dozens of scans for differnt things. Also, I have a very good friend who runs the Radiology Department at the hospital I'm under right now so I get all my scanner/x-ray info from her.

Hello bens mum, I don't know if this will be any use to you or just useless information but I said to a friend a few months ago that I would hate to go into one of those mri enclosed tube scanners as I suffer badly with being shut in small spaces (cant spell the big word), and she said "it's surprising how many people can't go into one of those things, that's why alot of people go too the Oxford hospital as they have an open one."

Now there's quite a few hospitals in Oxford so I don't know which one it is but it's an NHS one. I would travel miles to have one if I knew it was an open one. I just thought I would mention it anyway.

I hope you get the problem sorted soon anyway.

Hi Cathy I am in the middle of a bout of this too.
I get Labrynthitis, from the middle ear, quite frequently that I can control with meds. There are plenty of others you can try.

The last time I had a MRI I told my doc I was scared and he gave me sedation. The radiographers said it was quite common for people to take sedation prior to scanning so it might be worth mentioning.

Anyway good luck and I hope they don't keep you waiting too long for it.

thanx for the replies all. im in essex so oxford is a bit far for me.
ive got no idea on how long ill be waiting. its taken them 16 months to send for charlie for a brain scan. he had a brain hemorrhage a couple of yrs back. so he should have 1 alot more often than that.
so ill just carry on waiting. its not even been a week yet. so got a bit of time yet.
