Wax for feet???

I don't want to seem thick BUT I have seen on a few other threads that some of you wax your dogs feet. I have never heard of this and wonder if I should be doing the same.

Is it just for hairy footed dogs and what is it's main aim? Does it protect the pads or just stop ice balls in the fur?
Do you just use it in snow? And where is this magical wax available from?

Thanks sorry for all the questions but you are the fountain of all knowledge

Ali

A small amount of paw wax helps them grip, you can buy it from any PAH.

I haven't used it myself but others do

Well from what i gather it helps prevent damage from gravel, asphalt, ice, snow, roads treated with salt and all hard surfaces. It also moisturises and helps prevent cracks in your dogs pads. Since using this a few days ago but i must also mention that i have also been applying E45 on pepsi's feet, her feet are so much better. She is walking a lot better.

Altho the wax doesnt prevent snow balls i hear that vasaline does which i may try out when i buy some

I've been using Olive oil, and I've just got back from a half hour's walk in really deep snow, thick ice, strong winds blowing at -8 feel, and because I put the olive oil on, there were NO snow balls under any of their feet, whereas the other day, even a little play out in the garden with no olive oil caused humungous great big golf balls of ice under their feet! Try it, if you can't get the paw wax, but I'd strongly advise you to use something out in these conditions.
