Hi all , can any one tell me what the correct protein level in food for a leonberger puppy is ? Some say it has to be low but all the giant breed puppy food have high protein levels so I'm at a loss here , thanks :017

This link isn't specifically for Leos but is for all large breed puppies.

If you google bernpetfoods they are suppliers of Origen and on the site somewhere there is a fact sheet explaining about quality and quantity of protein levels. If you need any info contact them as the lady breeds Bernese so will be able to advise you.

As mentioned by someone on your other thread it's best not to keep changing a pups diet and I guess there are probably some Leo groups on the net where you could ask what other Leo owners feed.

What has your breeder said, surely she will be the best person to advise you on the best food for your pup.

For large and giant breeds you need to look at the calcium and phosphorus levels in the food analysis.

This is what helps with slow and steady growth to avoid skeletal problems with too fast of growth.

Calcium to phosphorous ratio: 1.2:1
Max calcium for giant breed puppies under a year of age: between 1.4 to 1.6%.

My Leo pup came to me on eukanuba and I slowly weaned him on to royal canine giant breed puppy.

It has all the relevant vitamins in the correct doses.

He will be 7 this year and is still fit and healthy. He has never had any serious illness or injury (touch wood).
