Blue screen

I sometimes get a blue screen if I leave the computer on overnight, and I have to restart it. Does anybody know why this happens?

Is there anything I can do to stop this happening?

The internet is always disconnected before I leave it for the night.

Over heating really is a possibility, if the air circulation at the back of the case is not optimum or if the fans are a bit cloggy from pulling dust inside.

This forum site [ geeks to go ] is a fantastic resource for PC help, they were brilliant when mine was being a swine, very helpful and thorough.

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index.php?&CODE=00

I usually asked on post headers, for Keith [ one of the forum admin there as well ], to assist as he is very knowledgeable plus being Admin and in UK himself, he tends to be very quick to respond as he`s in the same time zone [ people assist on there from around the globe ].

[ edited to add, I just realised you meant you had checked for overheating, not the spelling thing, just ignore that bit, doh ]

It's likely, given that it's overnight, and not when most at use (when you would most expect overheating errors to occur) to be software related.

You might well have something that is set to run at a predermined time each night or on some nights. (Hence why it only happens on some nights.) For example:

- Backup routine
- Antivirus scan
- Screensaver
- Spyware scanner

I would check any and all of the above if you have them, and begin to eliminate them by turning each one off for a few nights at a time.

Hi Ray is there any text on the blue screen?
Not like this it is used just as a example

Seeing a blue screen only means one thing to me and that is the blue screen of death (BSoD)You get BSoD when your system cannot recover from, or is in danger of being unable to recover from, a system error.

Any of the faults listed already can produce the BSoD.

In any case you need your system looking at i leave my system on most the time and only gets shutdown for software installation (restrat) or maintance (defluffing fans)

could it just be that it has gone into some sort of stand by and freezes? Is there a reason you have to leave it on over night?
