How do you feed your eggs?

Raw? Shells? Boiled with shells on? Scrambled?

If raw do they have to be Lion stamped to ensure they're salmonella tested and from vaccinated hens?

Or can I feed raw unpasteurised eggs from the farm down the road, a few a week on their meals?

Argh! Help!

My two just get a whole, raw, unwashed egg from either our own hens or ducks put into their bowls 3 or 4 times a week....

They eat everything, including the shell!

(The dogs aren't raw fed BTW)

Does the whole hens 'vaccinated' or not thing matter?

As I understand it, you don't have to worry about salmonella affecting dogs for two main reasons (1) the acid in their gut is unbelievably strong and kills off most things (2) their digestion process is faster than ours and the bacteria doesn't get a chance to colonise inside a dog anyway.

Mine aren't that keen on raw eggs (well Hoki will eat them because she will eat anything - but she definitely prefers them cooked) and I give the shells and all.

My boy gets scrambled (organic) eggs and brown toast every sat morning!
Its one of his treats, he loves it...when Im cook for every one else in the house, why not him.
Think he'd prefer a full english, but that would be pushing his luck!!!

Sorry, this post is NOT not much help!

From what I`ve read - bacteria (inc. salmonella) will not affect a healthy dog because the food goes through in such a short time that the bacteria don`t have time to colonise, and also the acidic environment of the gut helps.

I remember giving one of my previous dog's a whole raw egg in its shell. He took it very gently in his mouth, placed it carefull on the patio, stared at it, then grinned as if to say "oh it's a little ball", then threw it in the air & watched horrified as it smashed to pieces on the flagstones

But it didn't take him long to realise that raw egg is quite nice!

My current 2 dogs don't like raw eggs at all, even mixed with their meat, so occasionally they get cooked eggs.

We don't vaccinate any of our birds, but that's for several reasons.... vaccines only come in 100's or 1000's, so it's a complete waste when we only have 30 or so birds; our birds live mostly outdoors, so aren't stuck in a barn etc where bacteria can build up; we have no legal need to vaccinate, as we're not technically putting eggs or meat in the food chain (cos we're not selling them to the public etc).

We've never vaccinated any of our birds, and I've been eating our own 'very fresh' eggs for 3 years now without a problem!
