My first setter was a rescue from Jacksonville Fl (1968). The experience was so positive that after he was gone ( the only bad part of our life together) I purchased (Out of very limited funds ) an Irish setter from the same breeder as the first setter. What a great time we had . I got him early 6.5 weeks and we were together 24/7 with that time together we could tell what each other were thinking . My studio at that time was open to the public so he had a great deal of exposure to the public .At 8 years he developed a kidney problem and died ( at that time I swore I would never get another dog losing him was too hard to ever do again ( so I thought) . I made it 1 year and Ii realized I was missing too much by not having a setter. So I purchased 2 setters 1 English and 1 Irish . When they died at 11 and 13 ( basically from old age ) I purchased and Irish setter and what a wonder full time we had what a great dog/ partner/ roommate / friend ! When we parted (cancer ) he was 11. I next got a red and white Irish setter he died at 11 just a couple of months ago ( he escaped the fence and was run over by a car )I loved all my dogs but that one some how had a very special place in my heart it has been very hard !! So now here we are . I am going to retire in the next month I will get to spend time doing what I love working on my craft and spending time with my new dog ( which I hope you will be an important part of) I know what a perfect companion a setter can be. This method seems to work with setters, time effort and love in will bring a spectacular companion /friend out . I have the time and will put out the effort .I am very anxious to fill that part in my life which right now is just a great big hole. I hope I will find that my experience with this breed will help that result. In the last 43 years I have only had 14 months total with out a setter roommate /companion and friend . So it is getting about time . I hope you can help . Tucker Doggert,
