I am Kati. I am 43 and live in Yorkshire. I have been deaf since age 16 and I first trained Inca to alert me to sounds around the house. When I was in my early thirties I started having mobility problems which quickly progressed to the stage I needed a wheelchair by the time I was 35. Inca was then 4yrs old. I taught her other things like helping me around the house as first had very bad back problems and couldn't bend. She would open lower drawers on chest of drawers, get underwear out and close them again, help unload washer and dryer, pick up things I dropped, help strip the bed (for laundry), pull clothes off me, pull manual chair back to me or rollator so could transfer from mobility scooter after we had been out... basically anything I needed. Been a collie cross and very 'collie' temperament and personality wise she rose to the challenge of having a full-time job and loved it. She had been a rescue and her behaviour dramatically improved once we started this training. I think she was just a dog that needed a job to do! I have since found a new dog to be trained up to take over and have a Border Collie puppy called JJ. He is currently 5 months old.
