About me

My story is about how I came to love dogs, and find my best friend Nixon: I have always loved dogs and my family has owned several throughout the years. I was not always extremely close to the dogs we owned; however, that changed with our Miniature Schnauzer, Sam. Sam was my younger sister's puppy and I didn't particularly like him for the first five years. One summer when I was fifteen Sam was attacked by our neighbor's two Pitbulls. He made it back to our house and it was around half an hour before I saw him. Sam was dying and I genuinely thought we were going to lose him that night. I did not have my driver's license or a car and had to wait for half an hour for mom to get home before we could get him to the emergency clinic. Sam was able to recover, and throughout that time I guess I formed a special bond with the little guy. Around a year later he developed diabetes and lost his eye sight. My family has always been busy, and my mom and I would give Sam his daily insulin shot depending on who could get home first. I sacrificed a lot of time to help take care of Sam, even choosing to live at home my first two years of college to ensure that he would always have his shot and be fed. In November 2013 Sam's health started to decline, and the vet told us that it was coming to the point where we needed to make a decision on when to put him down. When mom told me that it was time for us to put him down I was devastated. Mom being the sucker she is for puppies took in our Shih Tzu, Mattie, that December. I did not really want another dog and pretty much let my sister have Mattie. I had not really had a dog I could call my own from the time I was around five, although I will claim Sam until the day I die because I took care of him the most during the last four years and toughest times of his life... he was my sister's dog. The August after Sam passed away Mom came home from work with the smallest, and most ADHD little mess I've ever seen. For the past three years Nixon has been one of my best friends, never failing to put a smile on my face no matter how much he acts up; and, a dog of my own. **If you're still reading this I hope you enjoyed getting to know about me. I guess this was kind of my tribute to Sam. When you save a dog that almost bled to death, having to stick him with a needle everyday when it pains you as much as him, and constantly monitor him to make sure he doesn't get lost outside using the bathroom because he is blind... that dog is no longer a dog, it is a child that is relying on you. I learned a lot from Sam as silly as it sounds, and I miss him every day.
