UK's "best dog-friendly beach" voted one of Europe's top beaches

Wales - a nation of dog lovers (Wales also being the first country to ban electric shock collars in the UK )

Rhossili Bay, Gower, voted 11th best beach in Europe

A Gower beach has been voted one of the best in Europe to visit.

Rhossili Bay on the Gower peninsula is 11th on a list of best European beaches in a survey of worldwide tourists by the TripAdvisor website.

It also came third among beaches in the UK, losing the top spot it held for the past two years.

On the Gower Peninsula, not far from Swansea, is Rhossili beach voted by The Times as the UK's best dog-friendly beach. It is a vast sickle of golden sand, its green headlands scrubbed by the breeze that blows in off the Atlantic. As a whole, the Gower is probably Wales' favourite destination for dog walking. There are four blue flag beaches here alone, with plenty of rock pools for the family to explore, sands to run, waves to splash, and shouts to call. They won't want to go home.

Esau's breeder lives about five minutes from this beach. It IS a really lovely sandy beach, acres for dogs to run about, nice shallow bay for ball-retrieving etc . . BUT it is VERY popular, don't expect a long lonely walk on the sands, it'll be you and 100s of others (unless it's winter). Parking is not good - there's not enough parking slots and what there is, is very expensive. Arrive EARLY (before 9am) or the likelihood is you'll be going home again disappointed. And no, there really isn't anywhere else to leave the car within walking distance.
There are beautiful hills surrounding the beach you can walk on for miles, too - take ear-warmers or a hat, as it gets very windy!

I'm jealous! Living in a land locked country, my dogs will never know the pleasure of running across the beach and playing in the sea. Still, I suppose you don't miss what you've never had!

Not just the Gower but much of Wales has amazing beaches, my favourites are in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion .
