Russian 'dog-hunters' who kill dogs for 'sport' plan countrywide 'dog hunt'

Russian dog owners have been warned to stockpile canine first aid kits after internet-based vigilantes planned a nationwide “dog hunt” next week.

The rumoured killing spree is the latest panic over “dog hunters” - internet-based vigilantes who have been known to poison both strays and family pets in response to what they see as a threat to children.

Most Russian towns are cities have a large population of strays, who can roam the streets in large and sometimes aggressive packs.

But dog owners say that the vigilantes often deliberately target harmless family pets. Dog ownership has increased in Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union, and the shortage of green space in cities has led to growing resentment amongst some non-dog owning pedestrians.

Internet rumours of the latest campaign of dog killings on January 20 have gathered steam on Russian social networks over the past week.

If this is not a rumour, then perhaps these "vigilantes" are doing the entire nation a favour by showing humans just how irresponsible and self serving we truly are. By the way I recognize that in myself.
I say agian...... Want a dog?...... restrain it. Keep the darn thing at home. Chain it. Put it in a securely fenced off area. Responsibility, responsibility, responsibility.....
If you're going to let it run around because "It's so mean to keep it locked .....wah,wah,wah.." and it comes even close to my property and/or killing my stock, I will most assuredly dispose of it.
If you don't have the mental capacity to properly look after a dog, I do and will, to the point no-one will ever have to worry about it again.
It is horrendous when I need to dispatch some-one else's dog whilst he/she munches on one of my pet rabbits or prize winning turkeys or worse yet growls at one of my children or grandchildren. I've done "stuff" in my life that is distasteful but killing a dog is one of the ugliest feelings. But I will continue to do so to protect me and especially my wee ones. Sad thing is it's 100% unnecessary. People, KEEP YOUR DOGS HOME! Or at least restrained.

All said, I agree with Meg.
