Caught on camera: thief steals puppy from garden

Shocking CCTV footage reveals the moment a callous thief steals a puppy from its owner's front garden.

Chris Whyte, 48, travelled to York to buy the £700 Border Terrier named Boab after seeing him for sale online.

But just hours after arriving back to his home in Motherwell, the six-month-old dog was gone.

Boab was with Chris's other dog, Tess when he left for work on Monday night, but had vanished within 15 minutes of a friend arriving to check on the pets.

Chris was heartbroken when his CCTV footage revealed images of a man petting the dog before leaning over the fence and grabbing him by the scruff of the neck.

The footage showing the cruel theft has been viewed nearly 200,000 times on a social media site.

Long-distance lorry driver Chris said: "I only had him a few hours, I can't believe someone would just snatch him like that.

"At first I assumed he was just hiding, but after hours of searching, I checked my CCTV footage.

"I was shocked as I watched this person petting him then grabbing him."
...[snip]...
"Boab is just a little puppy and he should be at home and safe. I'm worried for him and I want him back where he belongs."

Chris has made an emotional plea for the safe return of Boab and has offered a £500 reward.

Why buy a puppy and then leave it alone a few hours later? Especially in an obviously unsecure front garden?

I hope the poor puppy is OK as it must be very confusing for him.

Oh dear, poor pup. I hope who ever took him was taking good care of him or has passed him onto someone who is. I just hope he is safe and being cared for. And that he is returned safely to his owner, who will hopefully keep them safe indoors or invest in a secure kennel or something.
Poor dog must be so confused, as must the other dog who witnessed it.

Unfortunately that happens quite a bit around here, both reported and unreported. It's definitely a problem with the small designer breeds. Most people bring small dogs into stores with them, but sometimes they will leave them tied to a meter, maybe in an unlocked car or their own yard and the pup disappears.

Fortunately no one, not even the most dedicated gang banger would think about grabbing Callie, handsome as he is. Then again I would never leave any dog of any breed outside unattended.

Was just imagining some thieves looking across the neighborhood yards and looking in ours " Look at that one, we could get a few thousand easy"..." That one could take us both out in two bites easy" "Next...
