Have your say on plans to ban dogs from parts of Coventry

Dog owners can now have their say on potential new plans by the city council which could see dogs banned from parts of Coventry.

A public consultation has been launched over proposals to introduce four new dog orders that could include new exclusion zones and also give officers the power to force owners to put their pet on a lead.

The orders could be added to the current fouling of land by dogs order already used by the city council, which would bring them in line with neighbouring authorities in Warwick, Rugby and Nuneaton and Bedsworthwhere the other orders have already been adopted.

If they are all introduced, owners could be forced to keep their dogs on a lead in public places such as parks, graveyards and car parks, and even banned altogether from certain areas of the city.

The orders could also mean walkers being limited on the number of dogs they have with them at any one time as well as restricting dogs from entering certain public places such as children’s playgrounds. On-the-spot fines for breaking the orders could also rise from £75 to £80.
...[snip]...
The orders do not apply to guide dogs, hearing dogs, dogs for the disabled and support dogs.

Don't like this at all, isn't this resticting the liberties of dog owners..... so when i park in a multi storey in Windsor I can't walk my dog through the car park to get out to the river? I can't take my dog with me to the play park and wait outside the gate whilst children have a play. I understand that dogs can't go everywhere but if it becomes too difficult many dogs will be left a home more becoming less exercised and socialised and therefore potentially more aggressive. I know that as an owner there will always be places to go with dogs but this segregation reinforces in peoples mind a fear of dogs which is not healthy. The focus should be on inforceing good ownership (picking up poo and good behaviour)I also think that this may be down to pressure from religious groups. And that's all i have to say about that !!

Dogs are banned from our new children's park, but there are loads of places to walk them all around it.Most owners take their dog for a good long walk first, then stop off at the park and let their kids have a play.Picnic benches are provided outside for them to sit at and they can see their kids from there.Park is also supervised.
Graveyard one surprises me!Why would you want to take your dog to the graveyard?
Restricting the number of dogs you take out together would be unfair I think, especially for kennel owners and Dog Walkers.

What about if you happen to live in a banned area and own a dog, or can't you?

Think this is a human rights issue
