Dog dies after police use Taser to stop it attacking man

An 'aggressive' dog has died after police used a Taser to stop it attacking a member of the public.

Firearms officers were called out to reports of the dog attacking another canine and its owner in Braunstone Town, Leicestershire last night.

Police say the armed response team was called out in 'the interests of public safety'.

To prevent further injuries and possible attack of other members of the public or officers, the police used the Taser, a weapon that fire electric current to stun.

The dog died following the incident, which happened at around 7pm on Sunday evening.

Tasers can easily kill. There have been deaths in eg Canada when police have used them too readily. They tasered a DOG! Crazy.

A dog thought to be a pit bull terrier which attacked another dog and its owner has died after being Tasered by police.

Leicestershire Police said it was necessary for its firearms officers to deploy the Taser to prevent further injuries.

They were called to Braunstone Town at about 19:05 BST on Sunday.

The injured owner received puncture wounds to his legs and was taken to hospital.

Police said they could not be sure what breed the dead dog was but it was suspected to be a pit bull terrier type.

The dog it attacked, thought to be an Alsatian, was seriously injured and taken to a veterinary practice

Police said the dog could have attacked its officers or members of the public if it had not been stopped.

The pit bull's owner was not thought to have been with it at the time of the attack.

Police said the owner may be arrested and charged with criminal offences.

Here, I'm happy if officers taser. Usually they fatally shoot with a real gun.

According to this...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...mans-knee.html

Leicestershire Police said it was necessary for its firearms officers to twice Taser the animal after it locked its jaw around the man’s knee and wouldn’t let go.
...[snip]...
The dog that launched the attack, believed by the police to be a Bull Terrier type, reportedly escaped from a nearby home.

But police say no arrests have yet been made and the dog was not known to those in the area.
So nobody apparently knew to whom the dog belonged.

The man with the Alsation was on his regular walk, morning and evenings, and kept his dog muzzled. He is well known to the locals. His dog was not able to defend itself because if the muzzle.
