Allergy tests are back

We got the first lot of tests back this morning. They came back negative to trees, grasses, weeds, shrubs, pollens, fungi and flea saliva and positive to indoor stuff. We are getting further testing done for indoor things that cause allergies including dust mites, storage mites, feathers (I have a feather duvet which Finn sleeps on) and a few other things.

So another wait for these results and also the sarcoptic mange test results.

Im really glad its not any outdoor things like grass, trees etc as Finn loves being outdoors running around and I would hate to have to keep him away from the parks and fields.

Oh well at least thats good news Carole. I was always worried about Benji having grass allergies and things because its very hard to keep a dog away from grass completely isn't it, they wouldn't be able to have a normal life. Fortunately Benji tested positive for Sarcoptes and it was easily treated with Stronghold. How much longer do you have to wait for the Sarcoptes test? Benjis took exactly two weeks.

Hopefully should be back next week so about 2 weeks. I'm hoping its sarcoptes as it would be the easiest to treat. If its dust mites it means vaccines to desensitise him to the mites which does not always work.

Yes that's why I was really relieved to hear what Benji had was treatable because I doubt we could have afforded the injections anyway and like you say they don't always work. Ian IOW has these injections for Bandit and I think fortunately they worked for him.

Great news, but a shame you are stil in that frustrating waiting time. Hoep it's not the dust mites.
Surprised they didn't check for sarcoptes before putting him through all the allergy tests???
Hope it all works out well for him.

The sarcoptes test is a blood test same as the allergy one so made sense to do them both at the same time. Save Finn having to stand still twice LOL

Does the vet think there is a possibility it could be sarcoptes Carole? Benji had an ear scrape as well but they didn't find anything on that so proceeded with the blood test.

Yes Foxy she thinks it could be possible. Its only really been since September this started, the itching and redness disappeared with steroids but has come back again exactly the same as before.

But knowing Finn it will be an allergy rather than something easily treatable.

Glad to hear it's no out-door related alergies Ca - at least with things in the home you can replace/change. Keep us posted on the others too.
